The year is 2283AD. Humanity has not risen to create a clean utopian future, but have spread out into the galaxy to escape overpopulation and industrial pollution.
The core planets are crowded and influenced by corporate agenda, whereas the outlying frontiers are plagued by space pirates and frontier bandits, analogous to the struggles of the American Old West.
This is not the perfect future you dream of living in.
This is the used future of tomorrow, plagued by the perpetual human condition of greed, power and war.
